Capital Area Technical Center Law Enforcement Program ********************************* COURSE OBJECTIVES * Students will gain a general understanding of eligibility and training standards as it relates to the Law Enforcement profession. * Students will gain knowledge in procedures regarding probable cause, arrest, arrest warrants, and search warrants. * Students will gain skills in community policing which includes problem solving skills and implementation of new police programs. * Students will be acquainted with specialized investigations in the field of Drugs, Explosives and Computer crimes. * Students will gain knowledge in Fire & Rescue procedures including CPR training. * Students will gain skills in Defensive tactics and apply them within the Use of Force Continuum. * Students will gain leadership skills in all aspects of training. * Students will learn to conduct criminal investigations with skills gained in collecting and handling evidence, interviews and interrogations. * Students will gain experience in the fundamentals of police report writing including defending those reports in a court of law. * Students will gain knowledge and be able to apply concepts of constitutional law as it relates to the police professional. * Students will gain knowledge in Maine traffic laws and be able to apply those laws in police patrol setting including investigating traffic accidents and OUI investigations. * Students will gain knowledge in Maine criminal law and the application of those laws in the police patrol setting. * Students will gain knowledge in the area of police communications with skills gained in handling high stress situations encountered while dispatching. * Students will gain a general understanding of concerns facing police including personnel, discretion, civil liability, decision-making and police community relations.
