Culinary Arts/ Hospitality
Do you enjoy preparing meals, baking, and learning new recipes? If so, you may want to consider the Culinary Arts program at the Capital Area Technical Center. This program gives you all the technical and hands-on training you would need to become a successful member in the food service profession. You would have the opportunity to learn from Chef Charles J. Izzi, Jr. FMP one of the best in the industry. Chef Charles is a 30 + year veteran of the culinary profession and 5th generation in the food service industry. Chef holds both a bachelor's and an associate degree in Culinary and Food Service Management.
Overall, jobs for chefs, cooks and food preparation workers are expected to increase over the next ten years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This is due mainly to the increasing number of families that are dining out for the sake of time and convenience, coupled with television cooking shows, books, and magazines' gain in popularity.
A successful Culinary Arts career could enable students to persue areas in the industry like: Baker, Pastry Chef, Hotel or Restaurant Manager. These beliefs are instilled in our program. Aspiring executive chefs or head cooks will get a first rate start here, as you'll spend the majority of your class time in the kitchen, getting actual cooking experience prepping for the school lunch program, banquets, private functions, working at food shows and serving the Legislature at the Capitol.
Program Advantages for students who upon successful completion of the program can earn college credits from Southern, Central, York and Eastern Maine Community Colleges. ServSafe -- a National certification is awarded thru The National restaurant Association.
